New Alternative Fuel Prices Web Site

Post by Frank »

I see that there is a new web site that tracks the locations and prices of alternative fuel stations:
http://www.altfuelprices.com/

Besides the LPG and CNG, it also includes the other major alternative fuels. Although it seems to be set up for Canada and the USA, it looks like it could easily handle other countries. The problem with some of the other fuel price tracking sites is that they're set up for gasoline and diesel, which means the prices expire within a short time.

My guess is that they seeded the US locations of their database with information from the US Department of Energy's site:
http://afdc.energy.gov/afdc/fuels/stations.htm

I've added all the stations I was aware of in the Niagara area and noticed that the site doesn't updated right away. They must review every update first before posting it.

For NZ Fuels prices
http://www.pricewatch.co.nz/
just roll the mouse over the map.

Keep in mind, using a Rockgas Fuel card, at many stations, (mainly Mobil, Catex, and some Challange and Gull) drops 10 to 12c /liter off.

A couple weeks ago, I was wondering why, as petrol /deseil prices go up and down rated to the price per barrel, and why LPG is not...
Forgive me, I have lost the direct links/info, but this is the gist of it
After a lot of digging, I found the wholesale price is based on Saudi Amotrol (???) wholesale price
Which instead of fluctuating for the last 10 yrs, has steadly risen, and the predictions thru to 2010, to contintue rise at a similar rate it has over the last 2 yrs....which is not good news.
Currently in NZ, LPG is by far the most expensive method for heating and cooking in the home, over electricity, Nat gas (CNG), and oil.

For European readers, this is a very extended site, including price updates from customers:

Yep, in NZ not good news indeed - considering a liter LPG only gives 72.8% the energy of a liter of petrol, LPG is pretty much as expensive as petrol now. Even with the Rockgas card it works out at only 15% cheaper than petrol :-(

Just recieved letter from Rockgas NZ

"Yeah thats right, International LPG prices have dropped considerably in Nov We have already devreased your Rockgas fuel card by 6 cents/L excluding GST (gst is 12.5% general sales tax on everything in NZ) 23 Oct 2008, And we will decrease it further by 4 cents ex GSTfrom 6th Nov"

So that take LPG with Rockgas card down to about $NZ 1:11 /L Current exchange rate with $us bouncing around the 55 to 60c ..Down from 72 a fw months ago

I dont know what the normal LPG pump price is...think about $NZ 1:30 ???

Petrol 91 octane has dropped 65 c L over last few weeks to 1:23 /L
