rebuild mixer and reg.

Post by geraldm »

Waiting for parts for my old ALGas c-250A reg. and model 60 mixer. Just wondering what secrets people might have for getting rid of the stench from the mixer and reg . for rebuilding . There must be something that will cover or get rid of the smell . What's your secrets ?? Have a good one Gerald .

Just thought maybe needed something different for the job .. Another question !! On my model 6o mixer the air screw is flat on the end like an ordinary bolt , On my new Impco 200 the air screw is tapered on the end ,, is the model 60 adjuster just a bolt that someone used or are they actually flat ?? I know there only a couple bucks but if it needs a taper I will machine one as I like to make my own stuff . here's a couple pic of each screw ..

Flat was normal in a lot of the mixers. The IMPCO 100 and 200 mixers both use flat surfaces from the factory. It is probably the correct bolt. I'm always puzzled by this because we all know that a tapered adjuster usually gives a finer adjustment. It probably has to do with the way the air passage is designed and how the adjuster closes it off.

You say your 200 has a tapered bolt. It just struck me what I read. I find that surprising as I am sure the 100, 125, 200 and 225 came with flat bolts. If they are tapered now that is a recent change.

ya the new mixer I just bought is the one in the pictures with the taper , that is what made me curious weather the old 60 had the right bolt . well just for the heck of it I'm going to make another adjuster with a taper for the 60 and try both , see which one works the best as if I don't have enough to do

is it because some mixers are rated as "FB" or "tamper proof" and as such the air bypass arangement is set for a much narrower range of adjust

as such it is common for some to blank the one on the mixer and add their own bypass valve around the mixer which brings a larger range of adjustment
when the going is hard, don't retard, remember your lubrication

Good info thanks bumpstart , so I might as well leave well enough alone , I noticed the 60 has a spot on the other side of the gas inlet for another adjusting screw also , ( it just has a threaded plug in it ) . Both spots have IDLE stamped on the case . I presume it is for different mounting for ease of access . Thanks ,

The kits came in from Pro=quip sales in Calgary , didn't take Trevor long to find me a set of kits to rebuild the old guy . cleaned everything up and did the aluminum a tad . The best price I could find before talking to Trevor was 127.00 US I believe out of California .. My costs from Pro-Quip was 76.00 including shipping .Can't beat that something tells me I get treated pretty good big difference in prices .. Nice little set up even if it is older than dirt .
