It looks like the hose between my vaporizer and the mixer has a crack in it, I will replace that hose tomorrow. Could that cause such a poor mileage number? I was expecting around 12mpg.
Cracked hose would make it lean.

Re: Rebuild engine on LPG

LPG only cars don't get broken in on petrol.

The old reason for not breaking in on LP was said to be glazed bores, loading the engine during break should stop that with any fuel.

Re: LP Gas future

Green scared Countries Like Oz and Cando are ignoring LP, Countries that need to keep moving and are lacking wealth need to be practical and use it. https://fordauthority.com/2020/10/roush-cleantech-starts-production-of-ford-7-3l-godzilla-v8-propane-fuel-system/ https://www.enginebuildermag.com/2019...

That alone will help immensely.

Re: Timing gear considerations on 1978 Ford 460

and it seems adding more throttle doesn't help but just makes it bog and clatter louder. Which is strange, because getting on the pedal should wipe out the vacuum and take the advance out. When it starts clattering the vac advance is already out of the equation, more throttle and load is just more ...

Re: Timing gear considerations on 1978 Ford 460

Even if I remove most of that advance from the base timing, and if I remove too much then I don't have enough advance under load. Starting off, tip-in knock like mad. Climbing hills at moderate throttle, knock and loss of power. Cruising - fine - until I try to accelerate, then knock. So I decided ...

Re: Timing gear considerations on 1978 Ford 460

Any chance you found a source for a 1644 anywhere? I've got good use out of the truck and "decent" economy all summer considering the work I put it to. Hauling hay, stock trailers, equipment on big goosenecks. I put the mech advance back to stock, dialled base timing back to 15 and gave up on the v...

Backfires are normally an ignition problem, coil, leads, or plugs.

Timing was OK. I checked again.
15 initial, 20 mech and 12 vacuum.

This may be OK, but most people will tell you it's too much high rpm advance.

Re: LP Gas future

Should count my blessings I guess, was going to pull it off two cars 18 months ago with petrol being cheap and media saying LP servos were not being structured into servo revamps.

Note to self, ignore the media.

Re: Dies out when in traffic

Had the original converted to hei. All new electronic components. I think if it were ignition related it would not restart like clockwork after no more than a minute. Its like a diaphragm that gets stuck momentarily and slowly releases with engine off. Also thinking it could be propane is not stayi...
