Has the cost of Ammonia killed this idea?

Post by 50pascals »

I just discovered this thread - been lurking on the site for a while.

I realize that ultimately, ammonia does not need to be a "fossil fuel." But it seems that escalating gas prices have tanked this for now. Locally, I'm told prices make Ammonia 3 times the cost of gas on a per pound basis.

Ammonia from coal was at around 250 $/tonne that is a good price !
Coal price is even increased...
Do you know its price now?

The technology for utilizing this fuel is still in development so I don't think that its commodity price affects its development at this time. I also expect the price of NH3 will come down as new ways of synthesizing it evolve.

Wind Power to NH3 (dialup users - 8.48 MB file!)

Niagara Falls Hydro to Ammonia (1.72 MB)

Electrolytic Ammonia Synthesis (4.22 MB)
