profire vapour injection in action

Post by bumpstart »

thought i would share with you some pics and a vid of a rare bird. a profire programmable vapour injection system

this one is setup on an FC rx7 ( 1989 ) and is running the stock coils and the idle control and even taking lambda feedback.

profire use keihin injectors and they each rate about 50 hp at the wheels // this rx7 is cutting it rather fine with only 4
and will soon upgrade to another 4.. the ecu can drive 8 and expand to 16

myself i get to play occasionally with aftermarket efi
( on the rotaries , so i am intimate with all things injection.. sequential )
and i have history there going right back to the early 90's
so i can compare this Profire with the likes of haltech ps1000 and adaptronic e440
and see that beyond the obvious differences in the LPG V the petrol software and dedicated features

on the quick glance and despite being the older of the trio .
. this is still a very advanced ecu with many outputs and some functionality beyond those popular offerings
( such as flyback protection for large injectors , twin knock sensor inputs etc )

and falls down mostly in that it will not represent the data in a 3d map or do a VE tune like the modern offerings
( though myself still prefer the bin table and injector pulsewidth method anyhow ..and the profire will run closed loop and it will self learn )

a pic of the rx7 with reg in foreground and injectors in stock petrol locations ( top manifold is off )

the rx7 ( if you havent yet seen the torture they can be to work with )

next linked pic of the reg these vapour injection guys use now

this pic is a supra in the shop and the rx7 uses the bulkier black unit . both are rated for 450 hp of flow

then there is a few screen shots of the bin tables.. .. if you need to know it is 32 x32 ..
( adaptronic has only 16 x32 but haltech is comparable at 32 x 32, both adaptronic and haltech are user definable and able to custom )
that means revs every 500 right out to 16000 and MAP right up to about 60 psi ish

last is a vid. this is the pretty much a raw fire up, untimed and freshly built 13bt , with plenty of lube down the throat but you can see the data and log screen in action

when the going is hard, don't retard, remember your lubrication

hi bumpstart, sorry for the late reply.

Is this a single fuel, so dedicated propane, setup?

Profire can run petrol and LPG, as a duel fuel, systems on the one ECU.

I was wondering if he is running single fuel or not. I hear different stories about cold morning starts on propane vapour injections systems.

some say you cant start on propane without freezing the reducer, some say its possible.

I would think that depends on where the system is located. Profire is in Perth Australia where it doesn't get very cold but I'm not sure how it would go in a place like the Himalayan Alps where there is a permanent coverage of snow.

Profire does run single fuel (LPG only) systems and you can check them out here http://profire.com.au/ I'm not sure how up to date the web page is though so keep that in mind when reading it.

I contacted them some years ago as I wanted a system that could easily run a duel fuel engine. I asked if I could get one and told them where I was (on the opposite side of Australia to them) and their reply was they were only testing them in WA and the vehicle had to go to Perth to get it fitted. Now the website really hasn't changed in the years after that as it still pretty much indicates they are still "testing" the system.
