No question is ever dumb but I just thought I'd point out this is an Automotive forum so unless the furnace is for a locomotive or something "automotive" then I'd also be asking it on a forum for furnaces.

Now having said that I had a farrier many years ago who used a BBQ bottle to fuel a furnace he used so he could handmake horse shoes.
Fuel flow requirements calculations
Engine air flow requirement calculation: CFM = Cubic Inches x RPM x Volumetric Efficiency (VE) ÷ 3456

There is a difference between Automotive tanks and normal furnace/ bbq general use tanks
The 'normal' use tanks take the vapour from the top of the tank...
Automotive are like a petrol tank, have a tube going to the bottom of the tank and supply liquid.
Do NOT use the wrong tank for the wrong use, u could end up with serious issues.
