454HO on Propane

Post by morgas »

I am in the process of building a 454. It has all the components of the 454 HO Crate motor.Minus the cam,The reason for that is;I'm not sure what size of heads to use. I have the rectangle port heads, but with the pistons it only makes 8.75:1 compression,so I would add pistons to get aprox 10.5 or 11:1. However I am worried about these heads,They flow more but not sure if they would be a good head for daily driving/torque/towing/mileage ect.The other option is to buy aluminum heads and use the supplied pistons, that would be a110cc comb chamber as opposed to the 118cc of the rect port heads. The aluminum heads are semi open chamber. Any one have thoughts on this.Once I get the heads figured out then the cam is about the only other thing, thats another day.Look forward to your comments.
