Endangered NZ Kakariki Parrot help please?

Post by Steptoe »

As many of you are awere, we breed Endangered parrots for conservation... free..., in particular 2 species of kakariki
www.kakariki.net
100 yrs ago these where common as sparrows and thrushes, now 99% of NZers have never seen heard of them...yet in the rest of the world between Iceland and Peru there are more in capitivty and as pets than there are in capitivity and the wild in NZ.
We are on a 'mission' bring them back from near extinction, and this has to be done by awreness
The NZ Forest and Bird Society (very high profile and influence) have an annual "favourite bird" vote thing which the results in a lot of publicity.
We need votes..the 'common' species get heaps of votes easy
http://www.forestandbird.org.nz/poll

Kakariki are about 3/4 of the way down the page.
Your support will be greatly appreachated guys

Thanks

I put a link on the front page of kakariki.net yesterday one of the web sites I own...we jumped from 42 to 92 today.

You have a better chance of seeing or hearing a kakariki than someone in NZ...we cant keep them as a pet, or sell in a pet shop, like I said above, we have been a a mission fighting beacroacy, deskjockeys for over 10 yrs now.
Our missions are
1/NZers can keep kakariki like anywhere else in the world...our children can have them instead of an budgie.
2/For my grandchilden to see them once again in the bush and even backyards..in my lifetime hopefully

I just checked votes...99 we have moved from about 12th upto 3rd but the 370 for the pukeo ...yeah we can do it.
Thanks

The pic up on the polling web site really is totally unsuitable for such an application
Here is a good pic from one of the members at kakariki.net.....a rare handful of kakariki breeders left in NZ who is fortunate to have wild kakariki visit his avairies

I have a call today from one of the major TV stations if I could take a kakariki into the sudio...had to turn it down...this is really how stupid the NZ Dept of Conservation is......I need a permit to put it into a cage and transport it.

Congratulations! Does that mean that the TV station sent a news crew out to your place instead?
