Re: AFR numbers on dual fuel setup/300A tuning tip?
Billhilly I hope I'm not coming across as harsh but there is a lot on the internet and much of it is generic or wrong. I will also add.. most old school pre dizzy mechanics didnt/dont even understand timing and the background behind it.. Damn near ALL modern mechanics.. or 'technicians' who only kn...

Re: AFR numbers on dual fuel setup/300A tuning tip?
Little to ad to storms I take a slightly different approach in setting up timing.. both end up achieving same results...method in older posts Few things you need to understand. 1/ Never dial in timing increasing advance...as advance increases the tone changes, sounds better..this is sort of like a o...

Re: AFR numbers on dual fuel setup/300A tuning tip?
Thats what I run at.. or very close. There is far more than just getting the O2 right, you need to combine that with the timing curve. The timing curve will vary due to load on the engine.. ie final gear ratios, weight of the vehicle and if running EGR or nor Also Vacuum advance at idle (enables low...

Re: Q-Jet Throttlebody & 425
Mine is a dual plane.... no issues right out to leaning out high 4K / low 5K rpms sb 355 chev... which is around where it should be.. if anything a little lower.

Re: Q-Jet Throttlebody & 425
I have been running a Q jet base plate for over 30 yrs very successfully...over 200,000 miles ago From memory... 1/ have a spread bore to square bore adaptor, milled off a few mm to clear the hood 2/ the butterfly return spring ,added a spring between the levers on the opposite of the throttle. 3/ a...

Re: Randomly losing power @ WOT
I chased something like this around for a long time ... with a sudden lean out in AFR randomly, useually going up a hill constant speed or acceleration at cruising speed. often mild acceleration just getting up to full highway speed. turned out t be a most minute burr on the main piston inside the 4...

Re: EGR and propane
EGRs are not designed to vaporise fuel OK may have explained incorrect.. the egr exhaust 'tunnel' under the inlet causes heating of the of the charge.. not directly EGR function but certainly part of it and results in heating of the charge. So with lpg .. these tunnels need to be closed off regardl...

Re: Squish clearance?
Yeah I tend to agree.. espec when looking to hi rpm performance stuff On the other hand hi rpm modern hi performance stuff is designed for exactly that. Running old school un modded except for port matching stuff for economy bottom end torque pull as good numbers and in many cases if the right heads...

Re: Squish clearance?
Yes and if a 350.. I would also be looking at early 202 small chamber cast fuelie heads.. think u guys called them camel humps?? By the time u skim the deck and heads u get the compression ratios up... but if u have to deck ans plane heads u change the angle at which they sit, surfaces dont match va...

Re: EGR and propane
Recommendation is to block off ....I have used the thin block off 'pads' that come with valley cover sets but they dont seem to last the distance and made up heavier ones out of alloy. Since the fuel is a gas and doesnt require atomising/ vaporising for efficient burn, pre heating is not required. A...

Looking for propane only idle to 4000 rpm mostly. Its in a 4x4 truck hauling a camper around ect. Flattop pistons and some OK so looking at more a bottom end torque stump puller engine 305 heads will get me around 10.75:1. ramjet roller cam Duration @ .050" 196/206, Lift .431"/.451" Lobe sep. 109'....

Re: Squish clearance?
Amount of squish influences the speed of the flame from spark to max explosion/ pressure and how big that explosion is... A lot is made of this with little understanding....building a full on race / track engine that needs that 100th sec time yep matters..and the marketing propaganda BS guys selling...

Re: Starting troubles
Over 200,000 miles , rand the unit was 2nd hand before I got it.. I have never had to replace a converter or mixer diaphragm... except the idle diaphragm on the side of the 425.. and that was my carelessness yrs ago winding the mixture screw in and out... Just a lot of caution pulling covers and dia...

Re: Starting troubles
Is the converter new? If not, is it one of the old ECI unit with the 2 square boxes on the front cover? If not new, has all the oil/ grease crap been cleaned out inside? The 'hook' that connects to the diaphragm at the corect height... 1/32" make a big difference And are u 100% sure the diaphragm do...
