Re: Installed a Wideband AFR gauge today. Some observations.

If it doesnt run right something is wrong.. I agree fully with that. But sometimes you just have to 'do' things to learn from them and see what kind of effect to have. And, the 'problem' is, my car runs perfectly fine and pretty good, but I just want it better. (read: leaner at cruising). Without t...

Re: Installed a Wideband AFR gauge today. Some observations.

I found the manual online, along with a part-number list and exploded view of the mixer. Is it possible to exchange some parts between the IMPCO mixer-sizes? I'm thinking of the little 'Gas Valve' and 'Air Valve Spring'? I've got a couple of spare mixers and 1 of them has a blank cover. It also has ...

Re: Installed a Wideband AFR gauge today. Some observations.

Ok, I mis-undestood the 3/32" setting was for my vaporizer aswell.
I'll put it back to 1/32" again and see how that affects the Idle and Cruising AFR's again.

Re: Installed a Wideband AFR gauge today. Some observations.

I've come to the conclusion that with my current setup, it is not possible to lean out the mid-range driving mixtures. What ever I do or try, I cannot get the AFR's to lean out so they rise above the 16's permanently. I've been able to get the engine to idle stable at 17 AFR now. (Blocked off the PC...

Re: Installed a Wideband AFR gauge today. Some observations.

I almost had a good range of AFRs today. I found that if I increase the idle rpms slightly, the AFR changes down/richer by about a half point. If I then tune the idle screw, the off-idle and cruise AFRs stay pretty much in the same range ( 16.5-16.8 ). But, I don't really like the higher idle rpm. M...

Re: Installed a Wideband AFR gauge today. Some observations.

Checked the mixer today and it's the smaller type.
I also have the larger version on the shelve I noticed. Would there be any 'gains' in mounting that on the little 318 ?

Re: Installed a Wideband AFR gauge today. Some observations.

I fumbled around a bit more today with the adjustments. I did not touch the idle-screw setting. I can't lean out the idle-adjustment anymore or otherwise the engine really starts to run bad. It's already not running superstable anymore now with the 16.3ish AFRs. I rather have some rich idle-settings...

Re: Installed a Wideband AFR gauge today. Some observations.

Just stepped up the powervalve a notch and the AFRs are now around 13s with relatively firm acceleration. Even upto high 12s with near WOT acceleration. I'll back it off about 3/4 notch again and see what that get's me. Also noticed that off idle and cruisin AFR is also lower now (richer). Doesn't g...

Re: Installed a Wideband AFR gauge today. Some observations.

Currently, I *think* the engine is working in a too 'narrow' AFR-range. But I don't see yet how, and with what, I can adjust that. I think I would like to see an AFR-range of 14 to 17+. At the moment I'm getting high 14's upto 16.5s. What I am actually trying to get (would like to see), with respect...

Re: Installed a Wideband AFR gauge today. Some observations.

Are you sure the 'L' can provide more than the 'E'? The model 'L' I have is physically smaller than the 'E'. The engine is a bone stock little 318ci. Auto, 2.94:1 gears. The RPMs go no-higher than 4000-4500 rpm. Since the engine is a very low compression (8.5:1 cr) smog motor, there's no torque or r...

Re: Installed a Wideband AFR gauge today. Some observations.

I will get a fresh diaphragm for it.
I looked closely at the spring yesterday, trying to indentify it's color, but it's pretty much chrome colored. No sign of a blue-ish tint anywhere. I've got an old spare 'L' convertor I will check tonight if there's an orange spring in that one perhaps.

Re: Installed a Wideband AFR gauge today. Some observations.

I understand what you're saying. And I sat down and didn't do anything before I knew how the diaphragm and lever work together; Engine-vacuum pulls on the diaphragm, which pushes on the lever what tries to open the outlet, which is held closed by the spring. But since the off-idle and cruise AFRs we...

Re: Installed a Wideband AFR gauge today. Some observations.

Right after I arrived at work today I decided to lean out the idle-screw a bit since the engine was all warmed up. Managed to set it at 16.0 AFR. In the afternoon I drove the car from work to my garage, but noticed no difference in AFRs during 'off-idle' and speady speed driving. These still remaine...

Re: Installed a Wideband AFR gauge today. Some observations.

I've never had the convertor open yet in the short year I've owned the car till now. The car has been parked outside for about 5-6 years before last year, and I'm pretty sure not much maintenance has been done before that either. I immediatly started using the car on a daily basis once it became roa...

Re: Installed a Wideband AFR gauge today. Some observations.

Didn't have much time today to do some tinkering, but I did adjust the powervalve back 1 notch richer. Took a drive home and noticed rightaway the AFRs are way lower now. Driving while maintaining speed the AFR is around 14.5. About the same as idle. Upon acceleration the number slightly goes up sti...
