Re: Forum Repairs
It seems that the database table issue was not fixed by this upgrade. The corrupted tables won't stay fixed so we are now going to rebuild the database. I'll likely be taking the forum offline again and I hope the rebuild won't take very long.

Re: Forum Repairs
I've upgraded to the latest version of phpBB with this repair. The software seems to be working fine and has a few minor changes to its appearance and functionality. Let me know if you experience any problems.

Forum Repairs
Over the past week, I've been trying to resolve a problem with a table that repeatedly becomes corrupted. I will likely take the forum offline tomorrow (Tuesday, May 12) to work on it. I'm sorry for any inconvenience this issue has caused.

Re: Forum slow to load
I've checked page loading several times today but haven't noticed any slowness here in Canada. I checked with my web host and the following quotes are his his replies. First Reply: I have no idea why they are having trouble. I'm not blocking those countries, but there are a lot of servers between th...

Re: Forum/site crash - 1 month loss of data?
Who gets blocked is determined by seeing questionable activity from particular ip addresses. Rather than having to react to repeated activity, it is much easier and less time-consuming to block an entire ip address range. Since I get a lot of legitimate traffic from Australia, New Zealand, and the N...

Re: What's this plunger for? (OHG X450)
I would like to see Franz put up the information from his old site back up on his new site. He's been too busy to spend much time on it now that he's retired. I would contact him directly, either through a PM from here or through his contact page . His book was very reasonably priced and the revenue...

Re: Forum/site crash - 1 month loss of data?
I had been checking into the forum regularly over the weekend and hadn't noticed any downtime issues since March 20. I believe my web host has been experiencing a lot of hacking attempts on our server and has been proactively blocking ip address ranges. I'm not sure why you didn't have access over t...

Re: Forum/site crash - 1 month loss of data?
So true. I make backups before doing software upgrades but I've relied on the data center up until now. This doesn't bode well for "cloud"-based storage of data.
The last word is that they restored the latest good backup so it looks like the last month's data is gone. Sorry.

I've replied to that topic. Still trying to restore the site with a newer backup.

Re: Forum/site crash - 1 month loss of data?
I was away from Friday afternoon until late last night so I only learned about the loss of data this morning. I emailed my web host administrator before I left on Friday afternoon that my web sites are all down. Normally, the data center makes daily backups with a Raid 10 array but, from what I've l...

Re: 454 valve seats
I probably should have given my reply more thought. What I meant was that for a properly set up propane engine, valve wear is normally relatively low and similar to that experienced by an engine running on unleaded gasoline. Valve wear will be accelerated from the slow rate of combustion of excessiv...

Re: 454 valve seats
I think the welding and breaking of the weld between the valve and seat are a symptom of the slow combustion. When I say "energy", I am referring to the thermal energy (BTU / kJ) generated by the combustion of the fuel. It only becomes measurable hp once the hot gases have done work by exerting torq...

Re: 454 valve seats
I am glad to see that we have such passionate members here. However, like C3H8 suggested, let's keep the discussion civil. If you find that you're responding in anger or annoyance, wait an hour (or a day) and see if you would still use that choice of words. I read pretty much every posting here and ...
