Re: Engine likes more advance with iridium sparkplugs...?

Since my last post I've been quickening up the ignition curve which has woken up low-rpm range of the motor nicely. I always had based the max. advance of 32° at around 2800rpm based on Steptoe's experience, but I've now been lowering that point from 2800, to 2500 to 2250rpm already, everytime with ...

Re: Based on your experience ?

For the most part I think there's more oxidation and crud build-up than wear.

Re: Electric warming of vaporizer/convertor?

I have not been using a 'silly' ;) IMPCO 300 for a long time anymore because my setup runs on LPG only (425 carb), but even that air-valve could be 'automated' with a solenoid and a MegaSquirt ECU I would think.

Re: Electric warming of vaporizer/convertor?

No, but I'll look into it again when the need arises when I start using vapour injection. My plan for now, is to also keep the ol' trusty Impco vaporizer in the loop as primary, cold start fuel source, and once engine/coolant temp is at a certain level, then automaticly switch over to vapour injecti...

Engine likes more advance with iridium sparkplugs...?

I have noticed my 318ci and also my current 360ci engines seem to like more advance when NGK iridium sparkplugs are used.
Talking about upto 5-7° more advance.
Anyone else noticed something like this in their setup?

Re: Upgrading my EC1 model E to a newer model

Sounds bad. Air in the lines is fairly normal and should normally end up in the radiator or remote canister, without barfing out too much coolant.
Take off the radiator cap and stick your nose in there. Should be easy enough to smell 'raw' LPG.

Re: basics on tank gauge sender ?

Usually there's a gauge on the tank. Or mostlikely a gauge with a variable resistor incorporated. With a multi-meter you can measure the resistance to ground. A firm push against the car will agite the liquid propane inside and this will show on the gauge or multi-meter. You should also be able to h...

Re: Is anyone familiar with HANA LPG injectors?

Looks interesting. But I also think these large injectors might have issues supplying small amounts of LPG at idle and low load situations. I think I would keep a 'regular' set of injectors and use a set of larger injectors as 'second stage' to be activated by the EFI-unit when needed. I've got a se...

Re: Building a fresh 360ci engine for mileage & power

Anyway, Been driving the engine for a number of days now and can report the increase in power is very noticable. Also, I'm using the same timing setting and ignition advance curve as I used with the 318ci engine (max 32° adv. @ around 2800). At first I created a 'safe' timing table with a 4 degrees ...

Re: Building a fresh 360ci engine for mileage & power

I was able to snake a long extention with a jointed 30mm socket in between the frame rails, torsion bar and a forest of headertubes to reach the large bolt holding the adapter in place. After some fumbling and no chance to prevent letting oil drip all over the headertubes I was able to get the bolt ...

Re: Building a fresh 360ci engine for mileage & power

Fixed the leak, got the engine running and took it around the block for a short drive. Still need to do a little more tuning and ignition wiring checked as the engine started giving 'sync-errors' with the MegaSquirt ECU when revved. Probably some grounding that needs to be improved. Fresh and clean ...

Re: Building a fresh 360ci engine for mileage & power

No pics yet of the installed engine. My hands were greasy for the last 4 days :) Will take some pics today. The oil filter is currently angled away from the headers and is already using a (factory) adaptor. I reused it from the old engine, but now this exact thing is leaking on the large bolt holdin...

Re: Building a fresh 360ci engine for mileage & power

Took the week off and have been busy with the engine swap since the LAST 4 DAYS already! Doing an engine swap in a Mopar A-body car with smallblock and headers... NEVER AGAIN! Finally had the engine running in the car today for awhile, until I noticed an oil leak coming from the angled oilfilter hou...

Re: Building a fresh 360ci engine for mileage & power

The internet is 'full' of tips and tricks of modifications to get gasoline to vaporize or follow the airflow better, but hardly anything is to be found helpful for propane. Trying an open spacer would be nice and simple to do during a dynosession where the hood can be left partly open and clearance ...

Re: Building a fresh 360ci engine for mileage & power

Re-lashed the valves today at 0.003". Some had opened up a bit after the first run of the engine with the now solid lifters. Engine idles with 21" vacuum with vacuum advance disconnected. The distributor's mechanical advance springs are a tad too light and cause the idle to get a bit nervous when ho...
