Re: rebuilt 425, model E, and VFF30 for sale near Toronto Ontari

Frank, Yes, someone from here. Yes they were intended for my NYB! IF (big if) this car gets converted it will be injected. Probably not LPG, big sad face there! All of the local propane stations have since closed, some due to the Suncore buy out! The big nail for me was the local seller in Apsley, w...

Re: What else will I need for full on LPG conversion??

Of course some of this hinges on the make / model of car or truck your converting.
In my case for example, 78 Chrysler 400 cid big block with no emissions requirements and no cat installed, I could get away with just the 425, E, VFF30 lock off, lines and tank. Simple and effective. YMMV!

Re: What else will I need for full on LPG conversion??

Let me see, you have a vapourizer and mixer so far. Need to add a proper tank, fuel lock off, approved lines, coolant tee's, heater hose mounting brackets, vapour line and fittings. Optional would be a closed loop controller, fuel gauge adapter, timing box (if required) There are a bunch of little t...

Re: Mattelderca's Q-jet project....what ever happened?

It was temporarily installed on my 400 cid big block Chrysler. Ran great! but I have not been able to source an affordable tank.
The setup was posted for sale here but as yet no takers. It is all sitting on a shelf in the shop awaiting a buyer or a tank. Either way!

Re: 425 running rich at cruise and richer at idle

What number valve are you using in the 425? There is a number on the bottom of the cone that is attached to the diaphragm. There is a lean cruise valve available for some applications. Also, do you use a closed loop? The proper valve for that is set rich and the contoller pulls it to lean out the mi...

Re: Opinons on this dual-fuel setup?...

While you at it better work out a way to cut the ignition to the either the front 4 cylinders or the rear 4 cylinders as whatever end carb is running will lean out the other end ridiculously. Your best bet would be a Quaddy and a Impco 300A You know, I don't frequent the list much anymore. Just can...

Re: Opinons on this dual-fuel setup?...

OK, this is a bit out there but might be do-able for the more mechanicaly inclined. Get a dual quad manifold and mount the gasoline carb and 425 on each of the openings. Sort out fuel solenoids for both the gasoline and vapourizer lines. Sort out vacuum sources for igniton and the like. Use a closed...

Too many faults to hold it up as a good example. Granted it is interesting, just incomplete IMHO!

Re: Cold air intake?

Again, I like your workmanship on the fabrication. Just need a cooler spot for air intake. Two sugestions for cooler air are the front fenders and the cowl. The front fenders can be accessed as steps says with two intakes, one per side and into the openings above the wiper fluid bottle, left, and I ...

Re: Rich mixture and burning valves

factory 460 timing chains are 8 degrees retarded. Did Ford make any adjustments to this for different models? Car vs truck or large truck vs light truck? And if 400hpongas wants to start a new thread to discuss whatever with steps, he should do so and not get off topic here. We were discussing a lo...

Re: Rich mixture and burning valves

Your rebuild list quotes 11-12:1 compression! You running race fuel? 10.5 is high enough these days with fuel the way it is. Even on dedicated LPG I would think 11 was a bit high for a street/ tow vehicle. Shoot for a lower value here, that 460 will respond a whole lot better down low, which is wher...

Re: Rich mixture and burning valves

Timing chain? Maybe but the computer should pick up that, maybe? It's probably just tired. A little lost compression, weak valve springs, slack lifters, or even worn cam lobes. A combination of these things will add up. The other performance limiter is a dual fuel setup, you can't take advantage of ...

Re: Rich mixture and burning valves

In my opinion, 130 psi is pretty good for a 460 with over 300,000km's! As long as pressures are consistant you should be fine, hows oil consumption? Do the wet test and leakdown and let us know. On compression ratio, you might find that 460, being fuel injected, is higher than 8.5. It might be 9.1 i...
