Re: Finally! Almost have all the parts....

Looks like other people have chimed in since my reply and gave lots of advice. Here is another link to good hose a person should look for. The good Type III is at the bottom of the page. http://www.nee.ca/singlepage/NEE_page%20104.pdf The above is from a Canadian company. I am not sure if they sell ...

Re: Finally! Almost have all the parts....

Hi, hate to break it to you but common BBQ tanks are vapour withdrawal, especially the new ones with the OPD device. Your car may "run" on propane for testing but it sure won't run right. Your system needs a legitimate automotive propane tank with liquid withdrawal. A BBQ tank in the trunk is a very...

Re: burnt valves

Moparman, I hope I can lend some advice. I have a 1989 Dodge 2000 GTX (known as Mitsubishi Galant in the world outside of Canada) with a 2.0L 4G63 engine. I converted to propane several years ago and everything has been fine since. I am also running an Impco 125. I don't know what gas valve is in th...

Re: worth the buy?

If you are a hoarder then by all means go for it ! $500 seems reasonable as long as there are lots of other parts you need on the van, just in case it ends up having a bunch of unforseen problems. Are the '89 vans getting scarce out there? They are in Ontario, but we have a lot of road salt which ru...

Re: worth the buy?

Hi, I'm not sure if it is just my computer but I can only see the top part of the last three pictures. A dual-fuel system is a good idea, that's for sure. The switches look to be in an okay place. I can only see the top bit of the underhood pictures but the Model E vapourizer looks a little high com...

Re: Different install question!

I've got several older Impco service manuals and I've never seen anything regarding direct pipe fittings versus vapour hose. I've seen many Impco installations, mostly on older V8s, where the converter was mounted horizontally beside the mixer with a pipe elbow or straight pipe. 99% of the time the ...

Re: Different install question!

Usually when the converter is mounted vertically, the vapour outlet is at the bottom for the so-called heavy ends to slide out. If you are going to mount it vertically with the vapour outlet up you might as well just mount it horizontally. Many installations have the converter mounted horizontally a...

Re: Propane vehicle died.....Need help.

Kind of a related question - C3H8 mentioned above - Since the coolant was low there is a possibility you damaged the reg primary seat. I was wondering how easily or often the Model E primary seat can get damaged. If the coolant gets low, I expect the Model E gets very cold and frosty. Is this freezi...

Re: 1942 Ford 2N tractor converted to propane

I have three metal forklift tanks, and I just got one of them recertified. Luckily I had it stored outdoors because it sat full for about three months without a problem but later my brother noticed the area smelled like propane for about two weeks. When I finally checked it, it had completely emptie...

1942 Ford 2N tractor converted to propane

Hi all, Look at a recent project of mine that I am excited about. 1942 Ford 2N tractor was gasoline when I bought it last year, but I have been converting it in my spare time since. That is a custom rollbar with a place for a standard 33# metal forklift tank. The forklift tank has liquid output. Not...

Re: Propane questions

Steptoe, Are the manually operated 80% bleeder/spit valves required in New Zealand? If the tank has an auto-stop fill valve, they are not required in my province in Canada, but they should be. On new conversions they can completely omit them. I am not sure if they have an 80% directly on the tank or...

Re: Propane questions

David, My family has a truck where the liquid supply hand valve was hard to turn off. It is dual fuel and normally we leave the valve open at all times. I do like to keep the valve working easily for in case of emergencies. What I do (and I should do it more often) is to completely spray the area of...

Re: lower mileage this winter

I have a 4-cylinder import car, and in the winter cold my mileage is down, and propane consumption is up. I have no idea why. I do have one of my heater hoses simply intercepted for my Model E vapourizer. I don't know if it is the inlet or outlet hose of the heater core. My heater core used to have ...

Re: Propane questions

I will attempt to answer your questions, but more members may have other ideas as well. Step 1, make sure your coolant system is completely full. The Model E should also be mounted lower than the top of the radiator. I have seen them mounted on top of the engine beside the mixer, and while I guess t...

Re: Economy on my Camaro project

Hey Steptoe, It is interesting to hear how your project is going. I have a 1978 Chevy 1/2 ton truck on propane. Way before I switched to propane, I changed the rear end from the original 3.3 (approximately) that went with a manual transmission originally. It was switched to an automatic before I bou...
